Don Greene (aka DJ Greenery) is an experienced DJ for weddings, corporate events, private parties and club gigs. Over the past decade, Don has become known in the Twin Cities for his encyclopedic musical knowledge and highly technical skills on the turntables, and is one of the area’s most well-rounded and respected DJs.
on started his musical journey and developed his love for the beat at a young age. His father was a drummer who got Don his first trap set at age 9, and taught him basic rhythms and timing. This was the first step to a passion for sound that would never waver. Music was always important in the household and records of Prince, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and Motown were always being spun from his dad’s collection. A few years later, Don would be inspired by the late-night radio shows that his older brother would tape from the local college radio stations—the sounds of groups including A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg and The Getoboys would forever influence his taste for hip-hop, and later on a thirst to find the original sampled records they used to create the sound of golden-era hip-hop.
Then in the late ’90s, Don was able to see real DJ masters from the Midwest on real turntables mixing and scratching dance records. From that point on, he knew what he was meant to do. Not long after, he was able to afford a couple budget turntables and a mixer. After years of practicing non-stop in his bedroom, he made his debut as a full-fledged turntablist at Pizza Lucé in Duluth, starting what was possibly the first all hip-hop and funk DJ party in the area. By early 2004 Don wanted more opportunities to create and build, so he moved to the Twin Cities and quickly established himself in the hip-hop community dominated by the now famous Rhymesayers Entertainment record label. During that period, he made his mark at the Dinkytowner spinning records weekly, digging for vinyl obsessively and developing his original producer chops under the banner of DJ Green+EMS with his longtime musical collaborator, Ian Anderson.
Today, you can find DJ Greenery spinning every genre under the sun and playing music full-time as the Minnesota Gophers football official pre-game DJ, a Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Vikings backcourt club DJ, and in rotation at venues including Last Call, The Pourhouse, New Bohemia, and 612Brew. Don has also opened for acts including Snoop Dogg, Lil Kim, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Slick Rick, Q-Bert, De La Soul, Blackalicious and Mobb Deep, and is a member of Generation Now and Slipmats Radio DJ crews.
